Physical Therapy & Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders/hEDS

Have you been told that you are “really flexible” but injure yourself easily? Do you have various symptoms (related to heart, GI, difficulty recovering from surgery, etc.) that are “odd” & don’t fit into an obvious category? Have you been put off, ignored, & frustrated by the healthcare you have received despite looking for answers & help?

To all of the “bendy” people out there, I see you. You may need someone who listens to the intricacies of your situation. You may need more specific, safe exercise prescription. You may need hands-on treatment for many months. Let me help.

  • Chronic Joint Pain

Joints that move more than they are supposed to lack stability. Even if you are strong, you need the foundation of stable shoulders & hips to be able to control your limbs. Often you have pain in your upper neck & headaches/jaw pain to accompany all of the other things.

  • Constipation

This can be a problem all on its own, or can be a symptom of other things you have going on or medications you are taking. You may need help with getting things going through your digestive system by working on your belly.

  • Feeling the Need to Stretch & Move

You may have extra mobility, but it doesn’t FEEL like you do. You feel stiff & tight, & this drives your desire for more of what’s not good for you. We can adjust yoga poses & stretches to make them even harder & also more effective & safe.

  • Pelvic Organ Prolapse

The organs are held in place down below with pelvic floor muscles & above/around with tissues & ligaments. If those puppet strings up above are too loose, the bladder, uterus, & rectum can feel like they are “falling out” & create pressure &/or discomfort down there.

  • Urinary Incontinence / Frequency

Urinary symptoms can look like lots of different things, such as feeling like you have to go to the bathroom right NOW or ALL THE TIME, not emptying all the way, or leaking a few drops, or losing the whole bladder full. The nervous system is involved here, & there are ways to calm it down when helpful.

  • Pelvic Pain / Painful Sex

Pain in the pelvic region can be cyclical or constant, & often affects how sexual activity feels. Pain can be on the surface or can be deep in the muscles. Sex can also be difficult due to things outside the pelvic floor, but can be easier with accessibility devices, positioning, & learning new things!
